Fifty Fifty

Monday 11-17-14
Today marks fifty days before my 50th birthday. How did that happen? All I know is that I want to be a fabulous 50-year old and not a frumpy 50-year old. Hmmmmmm. I guess I need to change some bad habits. Like eating cookies for breakfast. I got rid of all the remaining cookies in my house and I’m ready to make some positive changes.

I’ve been hanging around the 152-pound mark since summer and it’s time to get going. (I’m actually up three pounds after the Halloween binge. And a recent cookie making binge.)  I’m signed up to do an ocean swim in Hawaii THIS Saturday, November 22, and would love to feel good from having a few days of clean eating under my belt.

Day One:  155 pounds
Breakfast: homemade oreo cookies
Lunch: a big salad with avocado, bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkin seeds and salsa
Dinner: more salad plus a glass of green juice made from cucumbers, spinach, apple, grapefruit and ginger.
Dessert: an orange 50/50 smoothie to celebrate today!

5:30 am I biked at an easy pace for an hour

10:30am Hot Yoga at the Summit Athletic Club

And no, I'm not going to eat an orange 50/50 bar but this smoothie is almost as good and much better for you:

3/4 cup almond milk or coconut milk
1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
1/2 frozen banana
3 drops doTerra wild orange essential oil
ice as needed

Blend until thick and frothy. If you want it orangier, add 1 tablespoon orange juice concentrate.
Yum!

Ten Down and More to Go...

The 'before' pictures on the left were taken when I weighed 162. The 'during' pictures were at 152. I would like to get back to my fighting weight which is more like 132. I'm on my way!

Jewel Juice

This gorgeous juice helped fuel a fun day exploring Bryce Canyon with Andy and Sylvia. I made it by juicing three cucumbers, three stalks celery, two small beets and their greens, an apple, a lemon a small knob of ginger.

I try to use organic produce as much as possible but on this day my cucumbers and apple were conventionally grown so I peeled them. I cut off most of the lemon peel but leave a little on for extra flavor. I also like to chop things up a bit to help out the juicer.

I ended up with more than a quart of this good stuff. Try it sometime. It tastes as good as it looks!
